HeadCount

i was very privileged to work with an awesome non-profit organization on monday called headcount. i don't know if many people are aware of this group. i was sitting at my mom's house and picked up the "rolling stone" off of the coffee table and read an entire article about this organization, and was inspired to look them up on the web and see if i could volunteer. i had to fill out a resume, and wait for a response.
headcount is a non-partisan organization that is out to get people to register to vote. the way they are reaching out to people is through live music. the organization is supported by multiple jam-bands. a few to list are: dave matthews band, disco biscuits, bob weir, moe., keller williams, pearl jam, jack johnson, and many many more.
so, monday after 3 hours of sleep due to working the night before, i drove down to columbia, sc for many firsts. 1. volunteering in the community 2. seeing pearl jam 3. going to a concert by myself 4. doing something that i truly believe in
there was a group of about 10 volunteers and we each had 2 clipboards with voter registration forms. we were to register as many as citizens as possible. at the end of the day, i had registered 13! as a group we registered 121! wow, so maybe i did make a small difference! i was most successful in the lots. people were much more accepting of me bugging them when they were sitting down, listening to music, with a beer in their hand.
pearl jam had roped off an area in between the soundboard and the lightboard for us to watch the show. it was awesome! i only got to see about 6 songs, but what a great performance.

i am so excited because they have asked me to do Dave July 1st!
