Like I have mentioned before, there is NEVER a dull moment at Campbell Castle.....
I had been having a lot of pain in my abdomen after Lars was born. I just figured that since this was child #3, that I was overdoing it by trying to balance cleaning, laundry, breast feeding, bathing, bedtime stories and more while never sleeping longer than 3 hours straight. Well, after about 6 weeks of this, I realized that hey- this probably isn't right. I had a postpartum appointment coming up with my OB, so I decided to wait it out. So, I get to the office, and of course they are WAY backed up. I think I sat in the room for about an hour before I saw Dr. Freeman. She came in appearing all "rushed". We know each other pretty well now, seeing as how I have had 3 children in the last 5 years, and she has delivered 2 of them. So she hurried through my pap smear, and didn't even go over the typical postpartum check up instructions. She was getting ready to walk out the door and I said, "wait....I have a question". "Is it normal to have pain up here (rubbing the top of my belly right underneath my boobs), and a lot of gas?" Her response....very casually," no, sounds like your gallbladder. It can flare up after pregnancy. Do you eat a lot of fried foods?" My response..."no. we eat a lot of fish and chicken"....so she says, "alright I am going to send you for an ultrasound of your abdomen". She walked out of the room after telling me to stay and feed Lars before getting back in the car because he was fussing. So, I fed Lars and hear a knock at the door...."when did you last eat?" me: 7am. nurse: ok well you can't eat anything or drink anything else and you have your ultrasound scheduled for 4pm (this was 11am and I was starving!!!)
So after going home, arranging for the kids to be taken care of (and yes, of course my mom was out of town), Lars and I headed to the radiology dept at Presby Matthews for a scan.
After going through all the paperwork and doing some waiting, and some more waiting, we get to the ultrasound room. The guy puts the wand on my abdomen and immediately says, "so when do you see your doctor again next?" Ok, immediately I know that can't be good. Then he proceeds to tell me that I'm full of them. Full of what? Gallstones. Not at all what I was expecting. I was just thinking that everything would be normal and that I was being a wuss recovering from childbirth and that this was a complete waste of my time. So, since its a Friday afternoon at 4:45, I know there is absolutely ZERO chance of hearing an official reading or anything until at least next week.
So, if anyone knows me, they know that I AM THE LEAST PATIENT PERSON ON THIS EARTH!
(to be continued......)
