STAR WARS party

Since we were gone on Ar's actual birthday we had his birthday dinner this past Wednesday. We decided to try something a little different this year! We had a pool party!!

Arlen seemed to have a blast!!

And so did Uncle Pat and Baby Lars!

We had a pretty nice setup. There weren't many people at the pool, so we were able to take over the deck in the baby pool section. This was nice since there was a ceiling fan there. I was a little worried because the day we had picked for the dinner was the HOTTEST day of the year, but it turned out to be just perfect.

Ar's swimming skills have really improved this year! We think he might be ready for swim team next summer!

Clarke loves the baby pool!

And Lars just doesn't quite have it all figured out yet.

The theme of the evening was STAR WARS. So, I made a great attempt at a Darth Vader Cake. It was a Butter Fudge Chocolate Cake with Cream Cheese Icing topped with an entire bag of Chocolate filled Oreos. The icing was very hard to pipe on top of the crushed Oreos. So, I am only semi happy with this cake. I'll have to think of something different to use for the color black next time. I was trying to take the guests into consideration here, and not have them walking away with black lips, tongue and teeth!!

At least it tasted pretty good!

I made light sabers for the take-home treat. They were chocolate covered pretzel rods. Yummy! I think they were a hit! Arlen enjoyed decorating the bags with STAR WARS stickers.

There is my happy 6 year old!

We ended up ordering pizza from Papa John's and had it delivered right to the pool. What a treat. I threw together bagged ceasar salad and made fruit kabobs (I'll post a pic of those later). We had cake, of course, and chocolate ice cream. We didn't even need games! I brought along the children's book of games, just in case, which had several pool games in it.
In attendance were: Arlen, Clarke, Lars, Daddy and I, Grandmama and Papa Tom, GranGran and Grandaddy, and Aunt Liz and Uncle Pat.
