Sleep

So, I keep telling everyone how much fun I am having being a mom of 2! Their usual response is: "wow, the sleep deprivation must have not hit you yet"! Well, I think it did. The first 3 days of her life, I probably got a total of 4 hours of sleep. She did not sleep at all. She cried ALL THE TIME. You could only get her calm for a few minutes at a time. She didn't sleep for more than 45 minutes at a time. And that was a rare thing!! When we had to take her to LCH at 3 days of age, she finally slept after her 2nd dose of antibiotics!! (I'll save that whole story for another post). Since her hospitalization she has been sleeping wonderfully! From the first night home (that is the second homecoming) she has slept 4-5 hour stretches at night. On Tuesday night she slept from 11:45pm-6:45am!! I woke up completely confused! I couldn't believe my 2 week old baby slept through the night! Well, last night she did it again! 1a-7a!!! I am not counting on this continuing, but I sure am keeping my fingers crossed!!

So, yes, it was a rough first week, but now my little angel is allowing me the rest that I need!!

One more thought..
I think that working night shift for 6 years has also gotten me used to being sleep deprived. Maybe that is just my norm.......always sleep deprived!!!!

So glad you are getting some rest. I always felt like everything was easier the second time around. I think that is why the second born kids are so laid back.

The lack of sleep was a killer for me, especially haveing a child at 40 and then 43. That didn't seem like such a big deal at the time, but now, seeing my friends who are that age, I know why everyone thought I was crazy! But I can't imagine my life without all five of my children. Enjoy this time; it passes so quickly.
