So 3 years ago when we moved to Newton Lane, we knew that there had been cats living in our house. I knew it when we first came to see the house. I told the realtor when I was upstairs that I smelled cat pee. She thought I was crazy (I knew I was right- I was about 9 weeks preggo with Clarke- My sniffer was working well). So after we had lived here for a week or so- or maybe even a month- Bunny, whom I call the neighborhood gossip now, came to introduce herself to me while I was outside in the driveway. The first thing she said was, "how is the smell?". She said there were 9 cats living here and some parrots! Crazy!!
So, I started to notice this one cat hanging around the house a lot. She would be standing on my front porch and I didn't realize it, so when I would open the door, she would dash in. She had gone upstairs several times. I would find her in the garage all the time- and it was hard to get her out. I'm sure she spent several nights in there without me knowing.
So our neighbors on the garage side, that hardly ever talk to us, finally, after us living here for probably 2 years, told us that BlackBerry used to live in our house! And that she kind of became the neighborhood cat, so that the old owners of our house left her here to live with them. OK!!! That would've been a great piece of information to have shared with us!! I wouldn't be wondering why this cat was running in my house all of the time.
So, Clarke kind of adopted this cat. She loves cats. And BlackBerry was the sweetest cat. She was so nice and would let kids pet her and she would just purr away. We called her Clarke's cat. She was a fat and very happy cat. I caught Clarke letting her into the house several times. She loved her. Since Daddy J is allergic to cats and I can't stand them, this will probably be as close as Clarke will ever be to having a cat under this roof.
This morning at the bus stop I heard some sad news. BlackBerry is gone~ forever.
She has been on a steep decline the last month or two, so we knew it was coming. I wish I would've gotten some pictures of her when she was well and her self! I have no idea how I am going to tell Clarke.

Be honest with her. Our calico cat (I hate cats too, someone dumped her out, pregnant in our yard) Cleopatra got run over the other night. I told the buddies that she had gotten hit by a car and they took it very well. They were sad but they understood that there was nothing we could have done to prevent it from happening. We have the three kitties if you want a white one with blue eyes call me. :)
